Installation of New Heating System and Temporary Closure of Plas Menai

As a result of extensive investment from the Welsh Government and Sport Wales, work will commence at the end of the year to introduce a new carbon efficient heating system to Plas Menai along with repairs and upgrades to the ventilation system for the centre. To successfully complete the work as efficiently as possible Sport Wales has taken the decision to temporarily close Plas Menai.

We anticipate that the Centre will need to be closed for the first three months of 2022 (January to March) to enable the contractors to have full access to the site to proceed with the extensive refurbishment programme. This is a key project to support the long-term sustainable future of Plas Menai. The Centre is leading by example in reducing carbon emissions and supporting the move towards the entire public sector becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

This project is a further significant step on the journey that we have already embarked on which to date includes the installation of solar panels in 2021, our new electric vehicle, removing single use plastics from the centre and introducing energy efficient lighting systems.

We fully understand the disruption these works will cause to our customers and we are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The decision to temporarily close the Centre has been carefully considered, taking into account the health and safety needs of customers and staff. We very much look forward to updating you in due course and sharing with you an insight into the works on and around the site as they take place, as well as sharing our exciting plans for Easter 2022 and the rest of the year If you have any questions, please contact us at:
